When ten of our pupils sat down to write an essay, few could have guessed it would earn them among 50 participants a hotel stay in Lekki, five days of leadership training, and a place on stage at a citywide talent show. That is the exposure our pupils have brought home to the Local Government Education Authority (LGEA), Ikorodu, from the Maiden Edition of an international organisation, VISSIONC Leadership and Entrepreneurship Programme; an initiative using basketball and talent discovery to shape the career paths of primary school pupils.

We are proud that ten of our own qualified through a competitive essay writing exercise: eight from Anglican Primary School, Isawo, and two from Asanat Tomori Primary School, Igbo-Oluwo, Agric, Ikorodu. Their reward was a fully hosted five-day experience, classes held at Chatterhouse British International School, Lekki, with accommodation for the pupils and their teacher at Landmark Hotel, Lekki Phase 2.

The programme climaxed on Sunday, 2 August 2026, with a talent show that gave our pupils a stage to showcase the skills the training had sharpened, placing LGEA Ikorodu firmly in the spotlight.

Special commendation goes to their teacher, Miss Abimbola Oluwaranti Yetunde, whose dedication made this exposure possible. She accompanied the pupils throughout the five days, and her care and attentiveness ensured they were well guided and supported at every stage of the training. The LGEA recognises her effort as a model of the commitment our teachers bring to nurturing pupils beyond the classroom.

Ahead of their return, the pupils met with the Education Secretary of the LGEA, who charged them to remain dutiful and continue heeding the guidance of their teachers and parents. He urged them to avoid distraction and stay focused on their talents, reminding them that their academic diligence was what earned them this opportunity in the first place and that keeping that focus would keep the sky as their limit.

This achievement reflects the LGEA's continued commitment to giving our pupils exposure that extends beyond the classroom, and we look forward to more of our own excelling on such platforms.
